3-Wheeled Vehicles and Scooters
An increasing sight among concept cars and practical cars for the future are small 3-wheeled vehicles and scooters. Most often these cars are electric and are designed to be light, small and easy to drive. 3-wheeled vehicles have been showcased by Peugeot, General Motors and other large and independent manufacturers.
Driving 3-Wheeled Vehicles
The new concept in 3-wheel vehicles is to reduce weight of the vehicles as well as improving efficiency overall. Driving a 3-wheeled vehicle will feel a bit futuristic still as these cars are certainly not the norm, but the amount you save on fuel and the initial price of the vehicle is significant. Most often concept cars or produced by small firms, three-wheeled vehicles can range dramatically in purpose and abilities.
The Aptera, designed in 2007 and in production in the United States was designed to drive fast enough with two passengers to travel on the carpool lanes of California interstates. The Peugeot concept car was a winner of a contest sponsored by the company to design a concept for a vehicle. Driving these small vehicles often means falling into a scooter or motorcycle category rather than a vehicle, but with so few readily available, driving one would be an adventure regardless.
3-wheeled vehicles are small and often powered through a hybrid technology. The appeal of the light vehicle is the range that car or scooter can travel between fueling. In most cases, the 3-wheeled cars are electric with significant ranges and some currently in planning or manufacturing can be driven upwards of 160 kilometers before needing to recharge.
3-Wheel Vehicles Production
Currently, most 3-wheel vehicles are in planning stages or developed as concept cars. While some 3-wheel scooters and vehicles have been produced, they are not a huge portion of the alternative car industry. It's still unclear how much of a role these super-light vehicles will play in the increased desire for alternative cars.
